International Baccalaureate Diploma Opportunities at CAHS
CAHS’s inaugural IB group of 20 brave students began the program in 2004. They have since graduated and went on to many of the nation’s top universities, often with large or full scholarships. New students enter the program each year to take the place of those moving on to greater things. Current students are enjoying the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course and preparing for their extended essay (EE). They will also begin to give increased emphasis to completing the 150 hours required for the Creativity-Action-Service (CAS) component of IB.
IB teachers continue to increase their skills by participating in training workshops sponsored by the IB “home office.” The IB program has also started implementing certificate classes versus only a diploma option to allow students more opportunity to experience the IB program.
CAHS has been actively involved with the nine other IB schools in Ohio as they work together to form an organization in which the separate schools can network to share successful strategies, solve problems, serve as a resource for new IB schools and promote communication with Ohio’s colleges and universities. The group, called the Ohio League of IB Schools (OLIBS), is working to ensure a quality IB experience for all.
Both CAHS IB coordinators accepted offices in the new organization. Dr. Velo will serve as the OLIBS secretary and Mr. Fawcett will work as a co-director of professional development for the group.
